Cuchifrito

Cuchifrito It absolutely was a summery evening, and also  the heat was pleasantly intense. Wandering through Old San Juan’s blue cobblestone streets hand at your fingertips, soaking within  the reputation of the stately old buildings like we had stepped into another era around us, my fiancé and I felt. On some streets, especially  the older ones, we believed as us of New Orleans if we were in Spain at the time of the conquistadors, while on others, the French colonial influences were unmistakable, reminding. Colors were every where around us, in  the gown of the well-tanned Puerto Ricans, in the good fresh fruit juices, smoothies, iced teas, and ice-cream for sale on just about any street, in  the bright kites increasing on the azure air into  the distance.

Last night, on the day of our arrival here, we had settled conveniently at the charming La Terraza de San Juan, a hotel that is centrally-located captures so well the spirit of the destination. After refreshing ourselves in the diving pool on the roof, we’d gone on  a quick tour of the historical forts and fortresses which San Juan so abounds in. Following the Puerto Rico road chart, we found the beautiful places the very first Spanish settlers had built on this breathtaking island, the San Juan National traditional  Site, a fort with 20 foot strong wall space, immediately after which admired the ocean from the lofty heights of the Castillo San Felipe del Morro. We found a pandemonium of colorful kites hanging within  the grassy industry of El Morro, and we joined in  the enjoyable, chuckling and teasing the other person like small kids, wanting  to see who could fly the kite higher. Our very own hearts had leapt toward the sky with your kites and, having to pay no mind towards the onlookers, we had kissed like teenagers.

‘Does it however burn you?’ my personal finance asked, massaging my personal straight back softly, interrupting my revelry.

‘A little,’ I said.

All the time today we’d  been at the beach — the greatest beach we have ever seen: the Flamenco Beach in Culeba. It we couldn’t believe our eyes how white the sand was, and how crystal clear the water that bathed it when we emerged from the palm trees and saw. And it wasn’t half as crowded as we had expected. The mud was clean and smooth, like baby powder. It felt thus wonderful under the feet that we stripped to your bathing suits and rolled in it like kids, forgetting about our sunscreen. Later we quenched our thirst with those colourful rums that are light the Puerto Ricans love some much and which are so cheap right here. My personal fiancé next selected myself upwards gently in the arms and carried me  to the crystal that is shiny, into which  he dropped myself with a splash. We swam and splashed together like two happy dolphins, drifting blissfully into that hot watery abyss, beneath  the benevolent look of a cheerful sun. It actually was because close to paradise as we can get  here on the planet.

As dark started to creep over San Juan, we put an end to our wanderings and stopped during  the El Jibarito, close to the hotel, for some delicious conventional Puerto Rican food. We started which includes Morcilla, a dubiously delicious sausage whose components we better perhaps not tell you, and then my fiancé bought some Cuchifrito, a crispy treat of pig trimmings cooked in an intense frier, and a Medalla light frosty beer, than it sounds while I had my favorite, Mofongo, a crazy stew of beef, chicken, pork, seafood, and plantains, bathed in a delicious garlicky broth — it’s a lighter dish! We washed down all by using the rum that is best into  the world.

‘Back to the coastline tomorrow?’ my fiancé asked.

‘You bet, I said.
